One month, 19 days and a few extra hours filled with hard work: that's the approximate time that the cast and director, Ms. Tanya West or Marshwood High School spent working on their production of “The Jungle Book.”
“The Jungle Book” is the story of young Mowgli, an orphaned boy who lives in the jungle. He is safe and happy until one day it is rumored in the jungles that the feared tiger Shere Khan is coming to kill him.
Mowgli’s guardian jungle cat, Bagheera, takes him from his home and tries to take him back to the man village when they meet Baloo, a big, fun ball of bear. Baloo wants to take care of Mowgli and thinks he can keep him safe from Shere Khan until Shere Khan actually shows up.
It’s a great story for kids and parents of all ages and because it is a district play, the production consisted of students of all ages ranging from third through twelfth grade.
Those who participated in the play, such as senior Emily Beaudette, otherwise known as Fuzzy the vulture, described the play as “going great, I love acting and singing!”
Viewers have also given great reviews using words such as “fun,” “quirky,” and “different.” Those who went to see the play ranged in ages from young children to parents and grandparents.
Although the play was based on the classic Disney film it was also quite different because it featured an act called “The Jungle Remix”.
Now, what is the Jungle Remix? It’s an updated, modern hip-hop version of the first half. It features students like Aaron Fletcher, who played Shere Khan, rapping to the beat of “Trust in Me” and getting his groove on.
The Jungle Book was junior Sydney Porter’s first district play. She said, “the remix is really fun! It’s a great addition to the show and the whole cast loves trying something new.”
Unfortunately the play is no longer on stage but if you missed it or saw it and loved it then get ready for the next play which will be in April of 2012. Either way we should all congratulate the cast on a job well done.
