Learn About the Body and How it Works in Anatomy

By Jorden Mitchell

Have you ever been interested in learning about the inner workings of your body? Do you want to learn about how the heart works or even learn about the different bones in your body? Then you should take Anatomy.

Anatomy is a senior science elective, taught by Mr. Vincent Johnson. Biology is a prerequisite for the anatomy class at Marshwood. In some cases, juniors can take the class as long as he or she is enrolled in biology.

Mr. Johnson’s syllabus explains what students will be learn in Anatomy. It includes everything from homework to what units will be covered. There are many skills students will have by the time they finish the class such as being able to “label the parts of the brain”.

Homework is given in this class. It usually consists of reading out of the text book, taking notes, and finishing in class assignments. Labs are also completed in Anatomy like in chemistry and biology. The labs in Anatomy are not always dissections. One lab requires students to test their physical reaction time.

The class teaches the students the inner workings of the body. This includes everything from skin, sweat glands, hair follicles to how the heart works. Also different bones and muscles. Senior, Jacque Tworkowski said she “loves Mr. Johnson as a teacher and the class isn’t abnormally hard.”

Anatomy takes a lot of work and a lot of study time. If students are interested in taking Anatomy as a senior they should talk to their guidance counselors. This class isn’t just for students who are interested in going into the medical field. It can be fun for everyone.
