Marshwood wrestling is back starting Monday, November 21st for another season. Expectations are high after last year’s successes with two State Champions. Many of last year’s varsity players are returning this season.
The captains for this year are Caleb Jones, Nick Ricker, and Jake Barisano. Senior Captain Caleb Jones has high hopes for the team this year and explained “if we work hard and devote ourselves, we can reach our goals.”
Caleb Jones also gave a heads up on key contenders for States this year. The promising athletes are: Tyler Davidson at 113 lbs; Trevor Smith at 126 lbs; Cody Hughes, a freshman this year with high expectations, at 138 lbs; Caleb Jones at 145 lbs; Ryan Stacy at 152 lbs; Jake Barisano at 185 lbs; and Nick Ricker at heavy weight. Caleb said “personally I think we’re going to win a Class A State Title this year.” Cody Hughes is a freshman this year and his teammates have high hopes for him too.
The wrestling team’s first preseason tournament is in Goffstown, New Hampshire. States will be held at Windham High School and New Englands are most likely going to be in New Haven, Connecticut again. The first big meet this year is on December 14th against Noble here at Marshwood, so come support Marshwood’s wrestling team and show your school pride!
