Naviance Extends Beyond Senior Use

by Ryder Schumacher

Sophomores at Marshwood High School have begun using the Naviance system in conjunction with the 10th grade career project. This is the first time that underclassmen have had access to Naviance.

“Since the system was new this year we had it available to seniors for the college application process” guidance counselor Ms. Lindsay Edson said. “However, now sophomores are using their Naviance accounts for their career projects and will hold those accounts until their senior year.”

The new trend is also building a pathway for Naviance to be used for up and coming high school students. Ms. Edson stated, “eventually all four years, including freshmen students, will have an account that they will be able to access up until their senior year.”

Sophomore English teachers, such as Mr.Luke Edgar, feel that sophomores using Naviance is drastically improving their career projects. “Naviance adds weight and credibility to the career project” said Mr. Edgar. “Since many of these sophomores will use the site to apply to college, they are motivated to learn the ins and outs of the site. Additionally, students use this site to create their resume, find potential colleges, and investigate their career interest.”

Sophomores will continue to use Naviance to help with career projects in the years to come, and when those career projects are finished, they will have an even bigger project they will be using the Naviance system for: the college application process.
